Chopping the mushrooms and onion allows them to blend seamlessly into the ground beef. Cooking the veggies down before adding the meat is a must in order to bring out their meaty texture and umami-rich flavor. In a large skillet heat to medium-high heat. Add ground beef to skillet and cook for 8-10 minutes, breaking into crumbles. Remove from pan and set aside. Add oil to the skillet. Add garlic and onion, and cook until garlic becomes fragrant about 3 minutes. Add mushrooms and continue cooking for 5 more minutes. Return beef to the skillet. Add basil, broth, vinegar, and Worcestershire sauce. Bring mixture to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer until the liquid has reduced about 3 minutes.
